I am from the area. i love it. It is very family friendly. It feels pretty safe to me. There is a lot to do if you love the outdoors. It does have a reputation for being a little strange if you're not a local. The area is nicknamed "Happy Valley". It has a very high percentage of LDS (Mormons). I hope that helps.

Thanks so much for your response :) How is the attitude towards mixed couples? Im mexican and my husband is white. Do you think there is lack of tolerance for that sort of thing?

I hear great things about the area, so Im happy about that. What is strange to out of towners?

I don't think there would be a real issue about a mixed race couple. Provo has a couple of colleges and they are both really diverse.

I don't think mixed race is an issue. There are a lot of Mexicans here. It is strange even to those from Salt Lake City. In some neighborhoods people seem to be a little too perfect and too much alike. But, people are nice. My husband is not from around here so he gets bugged by a lot of things I wouldn't even notice. I love it here.

Provo is a nice, safe place to live. And, just as the other mamas said, poeple generally LOVE diversity in Utah--Provo especially. Tale of two cities comes to mind: total college town and family town rolled into one. There are lots of holiday events: 4th of July, New Years, etc.

My DH and I are both from, a not so nice part of, L.A.--that being said, we love how family friendly it is here. I'm trying to think of what out of towners would find odd: well, culturally it's very intertwined with LDS culture. For the most part, I see it as a good thing--family oriented, people are kind, etc. But sometimes, ignorance.
Many stores and resturaunts are closed on Sundays.

Hmmm...I guess I've lived here to long to think of more, LOL.

Good luck with your move. Let me know if you have more questions! :)
