DD is about 4 mojnths old. We have had issues since the beginning and every time I think we've got it right, something else comes up. Now it's her latch. Having a good one comes and goes. Right now, I thinkit's that my nipple is not far enough back in her mouth. It is a sharp burning pain and when I unlatch her, my nipple has a white line across it. How can I get her to take it further back into her mouth???? Im in a LOT of pain here! It feels like it did at the beginning and I CANNOT go throught that again Please help!!!!

Try to get her to open her mouth really wide then just SHOVE it in there!! That's what I had to do with DS1 when we started nursing.
If he latch isn't right, then take her off and try again.
My only other suggestion would be to contact a LeLeche Leauge leader or a lactation consultant for help. Soemone who could be there and WATCH her latch on and nurse for a minute to see if their trained eye can catch something that you may be missing. Or that we can't see through the computer.
Good luck mama!
God bless!

I agree with PP. Make sure the lactation consultant is an IBCLC (internationally board certified lactation consultant). They have to have a lot more education, training, and experience. :goodvibes:
Try to make sure she has a very wide open mouth and gets a nice deep latch. Her mouth should be covering almost all of your aereola. :)

What helped with my dd was having some lanolin on my boob, it made it slippery enough for her to get it further back. I would def find some breast feeding support, the hospital or local WIC office usually have BF peer counselors.

I do go to LLL meetings once a month. One of the leaders there checked her latch a month ago and it was good. But it was just good THAT time. And I don't see how in the world almost all of my areola can fit into her mouth. I mean, I've always heard that's how it's suppose to be, but mine is SO BIG. It's like 3 inches across and her mouth is so little! I've also heard there should be more from the bottom in her mouith than from the top.
She tends to latch on better when we are laying down. It used to be the opposite. What's up with that?
And she does this crazy thing where she turns her head to break the latch, then turns back with her mouth open and latches back on and then does it all over again like 3 or 4 times and then gets mad and starts screaming!!! I'm like WHAT ARE YOU DOING??????

im like you on the areola part, theres no way she could get anywhere near most of it in her mouth...lol....i think i read somewhere on here today to put it in her mouth about like you would a bigmac  sounds totally corny but she was right thats about how it looks and i would try the lanolin too cuz if its slippery then when she takes a good strong suck it should pull it in farther..i hope this works for you... i can just tell by reading your posts that you dont wanna quit, youre a great mama doin everything in your power to make this work, just remember dont put all your efforts into perfecting this and end up missing out on enjoying your baby.HUGS sweety :)

Mine has never had that much of my areola in his mouth. Ever. It's just too big and his mouth won't do it. I just had to find what worked for us. What did was me sitting crosslegged on the couch or bed and holding him with his little butt on the front part of one of my legs, facing me tummy to tummy. Then I'd support his head with one forearm placed right at the base of his skull, so that his head was kind of cocked back over my arm. I'd support my boob with the other hand and kind of squash the areola into that hamburger shape. Then I'd rub my nip from his nose to his chin a few times and get him to open, all the while looking at him directly and making the big open mouth face (babies mimic well). Then when he'd open I'd kind of flop it in there so that my boob kind of made him open wider.
It looked nuts when I would do it, and his latch never looks textbook but it works for us. Even now at almost 4 mos, I have to reach down and pull down on his little chin to make sure he has that lower lip flanged.
Just cause someone says the latch looks right doesn't mean that it is. If it hurts, something isn't right. The compression line and the burning pain are the exact things I had before having my son's tongue tied corrected. You should have that checked.

When ever I tried to get almost all the areola in my DD's mouth I would get a poor latch (because the bottom part wouldn't be in as far as the top. Thus white pointy nipples. Of course, she also did this when she fell asleep at the boob.
I would rub next to her mouth with the nipple to get her to open real wide then shove her onto the boob to get a good latch.
Plus, if i remember right, 4 months or so is when they start getting distracted by other things in the room. It might be useful to start using a nursing cover every time you nurse (or doing it in a dark quiet place if that exists in your home it doesn't in mine). That way she won't try to look at things/people/pets and getting a poor latch after you got her on there right to begin with.
