This past few weeks we have had nearly 4 feet of snow. About a week and a half ago water started coming into my master bedroom. It ruining windows, walls, soaked the entire floor and carpet and our mattress and furniture. Due to the smell and water we cannot use that room. It was closed up and my husband and I sleep in the livingroom armchair and sofa and put our baby in a pack n play in the kitchen. Then the children's room started letting in water ruining floor, walls and dresser. I wanted to keep them in there as I don't really have another place to put them so we pulled the carpet back to let it dry and let them stay there. In the meantime, I noticed my kitchen ceiling was taking in water and running into our cabinets. So far structurally it seems okay, despite the damage. I was hoping the worst was over. I had some workers remove teh snow from my roof. But the past 2 days we had more snow. Today, the kids awoke to a wet bed. I looked up and there is water coming through a hole in the ceiling above their beds!! Now They cannot sleep in their room and there is more damage. We can't stop the water or repair the damage until the snow stops and the ice melts. The insurance we hope will cover the structural damage - but we have no idea how much else we will have to be responsible for that is not covered. It is a scary thought with DH the only one working and thigns already tight.
I don't know where to put my family! Noone can use their bedrooms and we were already very cramped in here = we have a very small townhouse we were trying to save money to move (I can't imagine that now with all this mess) On top of this we are all sick... my husband and children have ear infections - two of the kids a double ear infection, and I have mastitis and all the dust and mold has caused my asthma to flair. I feel very helpless! I can't control the weather and I try my best to get people to come and control the snow and ice on my roof (noone can come out until tomorrow) but aside from that I feel like I just sit back and wait for the next hole to show up. I just pray that the integrity of the house holds and we do not have anything collapsing!!!
Please pray. I believe in the power of prayer! Due to problems in my pregnancy, I believe my second daughter is alive and here with me today due to all the wonderful people that were praying for us.
Thank you so much!

Huge hugs, mama. And I am praying for you right now! Do you have family around that can help you or friends you could stay with? :hugs:

We have my parents in the area... however my asthma has very specific triggers and my mom's house holds quite a few unavoidable ones... so I generally will only stay there if there is no other alternative as I am bound to be ill... but if this continues that is our only other option!

Update: the insurance adjuster put us up in a hotel for 2 days until snow and ice could be removed. It has been wonderful! Our hotel was a little apartment/extended stay type deal with two bedrooms and a living room and kitchenette. SO lovely! I hate to leave! But, it was a well-needed few days of relaxation!
Tonight, we go back to the house and try to sort out the mess. We heard back from the insurance.... they will not cover any of our furniture or personal belongings that were ruined. So far they wrote us an adjustment for the carpet, insulation and drywall along two walls. They haven't yet adjusted for any of the windows, exterior siding and ceiling... It is disconcerting! At first the insurance agent came and inspected all the damage and told my husband "don't worry, I will take care of you" A while later he called and said "... ohhhh I'll write you up for some paint and new carpet!" Meanwhile, he could see the destruction and all the water inside the walls and cracking the plaster and the holes in the ceiling!! He played dumb when my husband said... well you saw yourself all the damage inside the walls. All the drywall and insulation needs replaced, the plaster." He agreed to cover some of it, but we are still waiting for him to return a phone call for all the damage in the ceiling.
It makes me upset... I feel like he was trying to trick us. I am too trusting of a person... when someone is dishonest with me it really bothers me! I am trusting by nature and it is very unsettling to me when someone I have put faith in is being underhanded.
I pray he will be honest from now on. If the insurance does not give us enough to cover what was damaged atleast structurally we will be in real trouble! And we HAVE the coverage! We should get the funds we are entitled to - that's why we have insurance, right? I just hope they don't pull some kind of trick on us!
Thank you all for your prayers and support. Tonight I will go home and I think just throw out all of the damaged items... just get everything that is useless out of the house in order to give us some room to maneuver as everything is all over the place. The insurance has come and i have the pictures, so I can always show pictures again if necessary. But, these items are useless and wet and ruined... I don't want them to start growing icks.
The biggest part is going to be finding a place for the kids to sleep. My husband and I have been sleeping on the couch and armchair wiht the baby in the kitchen in a pack n play. But with the kids room ruined, I don't know where to put them. We'll see
Have a great weekend everyone!

:hugs: In this situation, I would definitely see about getting a lawyer involved. You could call around just to see what kind of a case you would have without any fees or anything. Insurance always tries to get out of paying for things. I have personal experience with this one. :yuck: And they try to get you to say things to get out of paying things, like, when I was injured, they would call and say a conversational "Hi! How are you?" Trying to get me to say I was doing well so they could use it against me. Seriously. Oh, and i was 13! :yuck:
