I can't do a sit up, I have never been able to do sit ups. I certainly can't even attempt one without my feet hooked under a couch or something. The only way I can fake a sit up is to have my feet/legs do the work (hence the couch.) So, is that something I just need to learn to do, or what? Will my muscles eventually train themselves while I attempt them?

I can't do them without hooking my feet either. I don't do full sit ups, hurts my tail bone and I am more likely to rest on both the up and down than I am when crunching. I do the "clam" instead, I crunch my top and bring my knees in, it works both lower and upper abs at the same time. I just find sit ups pointless when I can do other exercises and get a better workout without the pain.

sit-ups really aren't the most effective ab exercise. look into pilates type ab stuff. it's tough at first but you will get great results!

Get one of those big balls they use in yoga and pilates. I HATE laying on the floor to do sit ups... although I took so many different sports I HAD to learn to do them that way but still... I don't like them...

I have one of those balls actually. I'll have to try that kind too.
The thing is, I recently started P90X, and part of the exercises are sit ups, and I just can't do them.

Ugh, I hate sit ups. I have to do them in level 3 of the shred. I have to do the easier ones, where your legs are flat on the ground and your arms are straight out.

i don't care for sit ups either. they don't do much for me. to slim the tummy area, i find obliques and cardio much more effective.
