cough relief for a 7m old?

Okay, me and the kids have sinus infection(me) strep (DD) and Gage didnt have strep test but has more viral symptoms like i do, funky runny nose, sore throat, etc.oh and Declan had runny nose, low grade fever and "gunky" eyes..well we all got anti-Rx and she gave us an eye drop for d's eyes with on on refil incase someone else got it...

But all that out of the way, d' has on on yucky cough, is there any thing i can do for him? The cough could just be from drainage cause his runny nose:yuck: but..just wondering

Oh and saline drops arent working

You might try giving him 1/2 teaspoonful of Zyrtec once a day if you think his cough is due to post-nasal drip. Zyrtec is an antihistamine and could help to dry up his runny nose. Cough remedies are no longer recommended for children that young, and I learned in school that they don't really work anyway. Water is just as effective, or in his case breastmilk or formula. I hope your family feels better soon!

Honestly with babies, or even kids, I stay away from giving any cold meds, when you suppress the symptoms, you are suppressing the body from fighting it off. The only thing I'd do for a cough, take them in a steamy bathroom for a bit to clear up congestion, and have them sleep at an incline.

I use a cool-mist humidifier when the girls are sick or have a cough. It always seems to help them and they sleep better.
