Re: I think i am going to stop BF!

My SIL is going through the same thing. Her DS is about the same age and it all started around 2 months ago. She cut EVERYTHING out of her diet and still the blood in his poo remained. He's been a pretty colicy baby, although gaining weight ok.

They told her she had to put him on a hypoallergenic formula for 2 weeks while she continues to pump and freeze her milk. If he still has bloody poo, they do more testing. So far, he is a completely different baby. Very happy, sleeping better, etc. She's really bummed out, but at the same time, happy to see her baby is more comfortable.

I don't know what to tell you to do. ((((Hugs)))). I had a very difficult time bf my first ds and he weaned at about the same time. I went on to bf my second ds past a year. Your Dr. will probably want you to give the formula a try. Keep pumping to keep your supply up though.

hey melanie...sorry to hear that maddie is still having these problems. would you consider seeing another doctor for a 2nd opinion? maybe one who is supportive of bf? our doctor is wonderful and may be able to give you a different perspective (she does complementary medicine and was a midwife for many years, i think i've told you about her). i would also demand a referral to an allergist. has she had skin tests? is it just speculation about the dairy allergy (i can't remember what you told me)? i'll give you a call tomorrow after aidan's swim lessons. :hugs:

My ds also has a dairy allergy plus wheat, peanut, and fish :( He was having so many problems even was labled "failure to thrive" I found out that alot of products you wouldnt think have dairy in them and am very careful now. I know it is very hard but you can do it :hugs: My pedi never asked me to suppliment she suggested it once and pointed out that if I could keep BFing it would be best for ds :) I am not in your situation so I cant tell you what is best for you and your dd. I just wanted to let you know I have been down this path and it is hard but can be done. :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: So many ladis here helped me become wheat, dairy etc free and were great at making me feel better about my choice. I choose not to give into other ppl (like friends telling me I was crazy for continuing to BF) I really hope you get the support you need and I am sure you will make the best choice for both you and your dd:hugs:

Wheat and dairy are very comon for intestinal problems

Enjoy life is a great brand if you choose to continue BFing it tastes great and is free of so many things :D

If you havent done allergy testing yet have it done it was very easy. A little blood draw and he was done. He never even cried!

Just so you know if the product is kosher (MANY are) and the label contains the word PARVE it is ASSURED to contain not a trace of milk.
THought that info might be useful. :)

Thank You. We already know about that. We have found so many things that dont have dairy listed yet are not PARVE :headscratch: Dh knows all the kosher symbols and what they mean once we asked someone about there product and why milk wasnt listed yet it wasnt PARVE and they had no idea :giggle:

It might be because of dairy equipment being used and the reality of cross contamination.

Yes, but the op wants to make sure that she nurses before giving her babe formula, or her milk will dry up. Not sure what could possibly be in her milk to cause her babe problems, but it is probably some sort of allergy - have you considered seeing a specialist? I really hope she is feeling better soon - hopefully some other mamas have more experience with this and wer able to keep on bf and eliminated the problem come other way...

GL mama!!!!!

I can't really tell you what to do. I have been having a lot of problems with my dd's reflux. We go to the ped GI dr next week and I am worried they are going to tell me the same thing. I don't know what I'm going to do. Formula isn't the end of the world but it is hard to give up bf when you believe in it so much.

:hugs: Its just such a hard decision. I mean at what point is BF being selfish? Or is there even a point? I just don't want dd to be in anymore pain! It is such a hard decission. Best of luck momma!

I wanted to let you know that my ds's pediatric GI encouraged me to BF :goodvibes: Ds was on zantac for a while than when that wasnt working he was put on a stronger medication the insurance didnt cover :banghead: But it was worth it. Not until we found out about all of ds's allergies though did he start to get better. They did allergy testing with ds ASAP because he had a severe allergic reaction because I ate fish, and peanut butter in the same day oh and he had an allergic reaction to penacillin (all in the same day :banghead: ) I was also afraid the GI would push formula on us with how severe ds'd reflux was but he didnt. Let me know how it goes :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I do not think it is selfish to want to continue to BF. I feel breastmilk is best and am dedicated to give my ds the best I can. I do not think there is anything wrong with ppl choosing to formula feed although that is not for me or my family.:goodvibes: I really understand your struggle anf hope you can figure out what your dd is allergic to:hugs: Ill be praying for you and your dd :hugs:

I hope everything works out great for you ladies :goodvibes: :hugs:
