Re: Birthday Party Favors
I never EXPECT favor bags. I don't expect anything except cake at a birthday party :) although the last one we went to, I didn't like the cake. so.. whatever.

We just bought the things for DD's party. She'll be giving little cloth bags with a wooden bird whistle, a slap bracelet and something else, I forget. We're having a pinata with candy and small toys in it, so they'll be able to put their loot in their bags.

our last one that we attended had a bouncy ball, a little container of playdough, a balloon, a watergun and some bubbles. She's not yet 2, so we pretty much took it all away... well, except the watergun. But bouncy balls would be fine for a kid who doesn't want to put it in their mouth. We actually gave it to her, and the cats have knocked it under the tv stand with the rest of her toys.. lol..

We are doing a princess themed party so the goodie bags have mini princess coloring book and crayons, crown rings, a necklace and a princess rubber ducky bath toy. My DD helped pick out her goody bags.

Re: Birthday Party Favors
If we invite kids then yes we always do favors. I try to keep them around the theme of the party. I don't know how much we end up spending. I just get about 4 or 5 things to put in the bag.

This year for DD3's 5th b-day party it will be her first real party outside the home. We are doing it at Build A Bear so I won't do treat bags since they will each be taking home a bear they make. :)

Re: Birthday Party Favors
I don't like to give candy in goody bags because I don't like when DD comes home with a bunch of sweets. They just got sugared up at the party for goodness sake! For her princess themed party, we did small note pads with a fluffy/frilly pen and princess stickers.

For her luau themed party, I paid for grass skirts, leis and hair flowers for the girls. They also did a beach themed frame as a craft. I took a picture of each girl her in her outfit against a beachy background. We included each girls' picture to put in the frame with the thank you note for the birthday gift. So for all of that, no goodie bag.

I like to do them, but I don't feel obligated and I don't expect one.

Oh that's even better than cake!

Should rephrase: I expect a dessert of some sort. For my mom or dad, it was always pie.

Re: Birthday Party Favors
We are doing rainbow cupcakes in a rainbow cupcake box for dd's favor this year. I don't care for all the little things either but we always accept them graciously and within a couple of days the kids forget about them.

ETA: Last year dd had a princess themed party and we did foam crowns and plastic wands that the girls decorated and the boys got shields they decorated and blow up swords. Everyone seemed to like that and it was a fun activity for the party.

2nd edit (last one I promise): I never expect favor bags and I was completely floored when ds2's best friend gave him his old xbox 360 because he got a new one with kinect at his party.

Re: Birthday Party Favors
We have always just done a craft. For summer birthday its usually the cheap foam visors and either stick on decorations or this year we provided markers so the kids could decorate them. Last year we did an early party for the twins before halloween so the kids each got a mini pumpkin to decorate.

I always baked sugar cookies in the number they turned plus whatever the theme was. Tied them in a little cellophane baggie.

Ex: I'd do "2" and a dinosaur.

sent from my iPhone. excuse all typos :)

Re: Birthday Party Favors
This year I ordered candy car wrappers with DD's info personalized on it. I'm wrapping hershey bars and giving them at the end of her party!
