Re: Extended breastfeeding and the benefits

Whoa...auto correct took over! I nursed my first to 18 months and only weaned to get pregnant again! He had E. coli at 11 months and so did 2 of his friends. They were each in the hospital for weeks! My son got a shot of antibiotics and went home. The pediatrician said breastfeeding was the difference. I agreed. I intend to nurse this baby to 2 and if she self weans I'll pump and put if in a cup, as I would like to keep my milk and nurse an adopted baby should that pan out!

LOVE all of these facts. I find it sad that culturally it can be seen as odd to continue to nurse your child beyond the year mark... but then the formula market comes out with toddler formula? obviously these children need all the extra nourishment they can get when growing!

I nursed my now 4 year old until he was 3 years old. I didn't let very many people know because lots of people see it as "socially unacceptable". Great post by the way!!

Haha extended breastfeeding! I am still nursing my 5 yo. Just sometimes before sleep but I make sure every time is a memory because he could wean at anytime.
