Homemade Granola

I'm looking for an easy granola recipe, anyone have one? I love it but can't justify paying $5 for a tiny little box!

melt 1 stick of butter with 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup water
stir till boiling
remove from heat and stir in 4 cups quick cooking oats, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon
bake for 30 min at 350 degrees
after it is cooked you can add dried fruit, nuts, etc.
It is really easy and good!

Thanks for posting this...I want to make some for our 17 hour road trip and I couldn't agree with you more about making it versus buying for that price.

Re: Homemade Granola

My recipe sort of resembles most of these, unfortunately I never measure, but I use canola oil instead of butter adn heat it up in a small sauce pan with the honey so that I can mix them together before I mix them in with the oats (I also use ground nuts, flax seed, sesame seed in mine -- kids dont like "chunks") and cinnamon and vanilla when I remember to put it in. I bake on cookie sheets for about an hour at 300 turning (stirring/ fliping with spatula!) every 20 min or so. If I do it any hotter, the granola tends to burnor at least darken too much b/c of honey's sugar content. good luck, it is a great way to save$$$

You can pretty much do whatever you want with it really! My favorite way to eat it is in yogurt with some mini M&M's :)

Re: Homemade Granola

I have made quite a few batches of granola...I mess around w/ the recipe every time, but I tend to make it w/ less oats, more nuts, no sugar...I got into melting butter w/ no sugar added applesauce & a little vanilla. It was pretty good!

At this point, the BJ's Wholesale near me carries the BareNaked fruit & nut, which I love & it's a great deal, so I haven't made my own in a while.

As I understand it, though, Alton Brown's granola recipe is THE BEST--of course, I would just use it as a starting point. Making your own is fun & a great way to sneak in healthy things (flax, wheat germ) while tailoring to your own taste (chocolate chips). Good Luck!
