Re: looking for dha/ara free formula
yes..the purple can from goodstart is dha and ara free. I have several cans that DH bought by mistake(probably becasue it was cheaper LOL) that I didn't want to use. Do you mind sharing why you decided you don't want to use it ..thanks mama :)

Re: looking for dha/ara free formula
these are just 2 things written about it, but there is a lot of stuff out there to read in addition to this. its very interesting, but basically, the dha and ara were added to market formula to more people, and the oils are nowhere near as beneficial as breatmilk, and if anything have been causing problems in some children such as diarhea and vomitting. i would just like to play it safe.

wow very interesting! You know my pedi actuallt told me it is all a marketing thing just to make more money. You know I was fed formula without DHA & ARA abnd I turned out just fine..I think LOL! Anyway, you'll save $$ becasue the non ones are cheaper but I don't see them too much...

I believe that Parents Choice has one.

Re: looking for dha/ara free formula
Not sure about in the states, but up here almost any milk based formula has three widely available varieties. 1 regular, 1 iron enriched, and 1 both iron and Omegas (DHA and ARA) enriched. You just have to read the labels. I've seen all three versions in the major three brands, as well as the generics in most major stores.

And I don't use the Omegas either. The price point on them is outrageous, even in the generics, and while there have been plenty of studies to say that they're beneficial in breast milk, I'm not aware of much that proves that they do more than irritate some little one's digestions in formula. I do use the iron enriched because I know myself that I'm frequently iron deficient, so I can't imagine that she had heavy iron stores from me.

Re: looking for dha/ara free formula
so than, have you mamas found that your babies digest the non-dha &ara better? a little backround (not to highjack) but DS was constipated and we switched to goodstart the orange can with dha & ara with wonderful results. DH was sent out to pick up some formula and came home with the purple can of goodstart non dha & ara and of course he threw out his receipt (why would we return formula he said LOL) I guess the purple was cheaper and he didn't really see a difference. I am nervous to try anything different, I don't want to mess up ds's little tummy after we finally just got it right.I also hate to be stuck with 4 cans of formula I can't use KWIM? What do you mamas think? Do you tihnk it will give him troubles if I try it?

Re: looking for dha/ara free formula
Amelia80, you can use the purple just fine, the make up should be the same- only difference is the dha/ara additives.

I breastfed #2 and #3, but I formula fed my first, he had Enfamil LIPIL and had no vomiting or diarrhea.
