How do I get my kid to eat veggies?

DS is 22 months old and hates all things veggies!!

I'm currently at a loss with him. We offer him healthy stuff daily and he ALWAYS picks around the veggies. If we chop them up really small and mix them in his food he just wont eat any of it!!

Any ideas on what else to do?

My mom suggested a multivitamin. What are good pure brands for kids?

I'd rather he get it from food but I dont know what else to try.

TIA!!!

Puree them and sneak them in stuff. Still offer them whole, but in the meantime he'll get some on the sly. :)

Jerry Seinfeld's wife wrote a book about getting your kids their vegies.

Do you eat those same veggies in front of him? Sometimes DD won't eat anything off her plate but will want the same thing off of ours.

Make it fun. With my ds, if he takes a bite we leave it alone. I'll take a bite and then offer him some and sometimes that works. Sometimes we cut the food into fun shapes.

Multi vitamins are great, but not a substitute. Make sure you don't buy any with high fructose corn syrup in them (Flinstones do for sure). We just get the ones that are on sale at Natural Grocers, my kids both love them.

We started ds with sweeter vegetables...corn, sweet potatoes, carrots..etc... Now he's pretty good with the veggies at age 5 but he kinda sticks with what he likes. He will eat his weight in broccoli, asparagus, sweet potatoes, corn, carrots , green beans and potatoes so I give him lots of those. He's actually better at veggies than fruits. He'll only eat bananas and grapes as far as fruit goes.

DS wants to be bigger than his uncle so we told him his uncle got big from eating his veggies. :giggle2: Problem solved. Now my SIL is using my DS as and example for her daughter. If they tell her DS eats it then she gobbles it down.

My DD is the same way, though she is almost three. Besides adding them to sauces and things, I also buy the juice with veggie juice add and (Horizon I think?) yogurt that has them added since she'll do those. We keep offering - I'm hoping one of these days she'll decide she likes something.

Let him pick out what he wants from the store and help prepare it. (Even at that age he can help wash veggies, put slices into a container after you've chopped them, and simple tasks like that). That may help pique his interest in trying them.

In the meantime, I second the book by Jessica Seinfeld, Deceptively Delicious. I got it at a gift swap my MOMS Club did last year, and even though my DS doesn't have any trouble eating his veggies, it's a great book. The recipes are yummy and easy, and getting veggies never hurt anyone!

For Ava, I would give her the veggies first & nothing else til she ate them all. If I give her a plate of food - chicken, green beans, apples, bread - she'll eat everything & leave the veggies for last. By giving them to her before she was distracted by all the other things, she would eat a good amount each time!
