home made bread soft like store bought

how do I make my home made bread soft like store bought bread is? is it possible?
my white and wheat bread is really good it just has a harder crust on it than i'd like even though the crust is still a light color.

After you cook it bag it right away to let the steam soften the crust.

Feel free to check out my blog and look up my bread recipe. I've made it dozens of times, and find it to be pretty soft! (You can find it under Reader Favorites or the Index)

As soon as its cool enough to handle but still quite warm, take butter (or margarine, or coconut oil) and rub it all over the crust. Then let cool as normal. It softens it nicely in my opinion.

Definitely butter the crust when it's warm. It makes it soft and it tastes great!

Also, make sure you've got a recipe with a bit of fat or egg or milk in it. This will make a more sandwich-type bread than one that is just flour, water, yeast, and salt.

Milk provides a softer crust. Water makes a chewier crust.

Interesting, I never knew that about the milk
