Trying to figure out a newborn stash!

Hi Ladies! I am trying to figure out what I want to do for my newborn stash. With DS, I started when he was about 3months and just went right into OS diapers. I LOVE my BG Elementals and GroVia AIOs but I know its not reasonable to do an entire newborn stash from pricey AIOs they will quickly outgrow. So, I was thinking a handful of GroVia newborns for DH and when out and then some prefold's with covers? What do you think? What prefold's/covers would you recommend? Green Mountain prefolds? Covers I know I prefer PUL, but don't know which would be good for newborns. Help please :) I'm open to suggestions and ideas.

I've heard that GMDs are great. I have 16 BGXS that I got as seconds for super cheap and I'm getting a stash of PF in the mail today (happy dance!!) I plan on doing PF during the day with covers and AIOs at night because they are easier. Plus it won't hurt to have them around for DH. Lol.

As for the rest of my stash I just have no idea. I'll probably do a mix of PF and AIOs.

I keep hoping BG and Grovia have a seconds sale soon! I know we have until August, but I want to get my stash going :) And I hate to buy full price when I have no problem with seconds.

I didn't like the bulkiness of PF w/ DS at 1 year, so I'm avoiding PF. I'm hoping my flats stash will work. Anyone used flats on little ones?

No but I'm willing to try if it keeps the bulk down!

My plan is to use the GMD orange edge prefolds I have, and purchase 3-4 Thirsties Duo size 1 covers. I also plan on knitting a few longies/covers. I've purchased a couple newborn fitted Mutts, but my babies tend to outgrow newborn sizes in 3-4 weeks, so I won't be building a huge nb diaper stash. I didn't cd Noah until he was a month old, so newborn diapers weren't necessary last time.

I'm sewing up fitteds from the rainy day diaper pattern. It is a 2 size fitted, so its newborn/small and then medium/large. I'll be sewing up covers too, but all sized, rather than trying to make a OS cover fit. I have seen the Rump-a-rooz pocket OS and they seem like they could actually fit a newborn. However, they weren't even close to fitting my oversized 6 mo when we tried them. She didn't fit any other OS diapers though either, so it wasn't their fault. I just never could get the hang of prefolds and those explosive newborn poops.

By the time this one comes along, my newborn stash will be over 4yrs old, but it still works, so whatever. In it I have GMD orange edge prefolds, kissaluvs and some other fitteds that I made. For covers I have some newborn size prowraps, thirsties and bsww.
As for those asking about flats, I find the regular sized flats to be too bulky on a newbie. Last time I did use some cheepy gerber flats, they're smaller and a good size for newborns, but the absorbancy kinda sucks. I've since started using them all as cleaning rags and probably wont get more for this little one.

I love my gdipes size small for when I have a newborn around. I used both the disposable inserts (which family member and friends are willing to buy without cd knowledge :)) and my own cloth inserts from some of my other dipes. It is as bulky as you want to make it, because the cover and plastic inserts are very thin. I also love, love, love my FB OS. I plan to get a bunch more used ones off of ds before #3 comes along this summer. The elastic is adjustable, instead of folding down snaps, which makes them less bulky. They also come with a newborn and full size insert, so you can use what works.

Would flour sack towels work? Or would they not have good absorbancy either? Do most of you think that NB prefolds are not bulky?
