Changing the name?
DH and I are having a girl- name WE decided on is Lana Raine A____. we went back and forth on the spelling of Raine. Its after our angel twin son Raymond. DHs family does NOT know the sex of Lana. They ignore the fact we had a son. Ok so tonight Grandpa in law and Grandma in law come over and they are now saying "we hope for a baby sister" -- gee thanks. Anyway.. my point is this: so apparently Dh and Grandpa were talking and Grandpa was asking how wed spell the middle name (not sure why it matters??) and DH said "Raine- R-A-I-N-E." and grandpa told DH people will think its Renee.

WHAT?! how is Raine like Renee?

so then of course DH is a family pleaser and tells me he wants to change it to Rayne as it wont look like Renee. Ummm, no.

so.. my question:

does Lana (lawn-nah) Raine (rain, like from the sky) look or sound like Lana (lawn-nah) Renee (Ren-nay)???

ETA: youd be suprised how much trouble i go through for picking my childrens middle names... nathaniel owen lee was simple. no one really complained. Candice elena was hard cause people say E-Lawn-nah instead of E-Lane-nah... and now Lana gets trouble too.. :(

Re: Changing the name?
I love the name Raine. So to me, it looks like Rain. When I was a teen I was gonna name my 'future' little girl Samantha Vesuvius Raine. I would look at Lana Raine and say, Lane-ah Rain(e). But have you seen my name, yep that is how it is really spelled. So I am used to correcting people!

Re: Changing the name?
I just wanted to say- I'm using that for a middle name too-:) I was thinking the same thing about the spelling Raine-that people would try pronounce the "e" at the end somehow. I think I am going with the spelling "Rainn" I first seen the name spelled this way because there is an actor on "the Office" named Rainn Wilson-- i always thought it would be a cute middle name-- and different--

My little girl is going to be

Lily Rainn

Maybe just -- Launa?

Re: Changing the name?
I think the original way you wanted to spell both names is fine. I had no trouble figuring out that Lana Raine was Lana Raine, and not lana renay, or lana rainy, or lane-a etc. Remember that you are choosing your child's name to please yourselves, not you relatives, especially not ones who apperar to be jerks.

Re: Changing the name?
well now i have a new one to add:

when you see

would you say it as LAWN-Nah? or LANE-ah?

we want LAWN-nah. how would we spell it though to be said as that?

Re: Changing the name?
Raine is fine- spell it however you like.
Lana I thought was like Landa- without the D- I didn't even think of Lawna until you said it was pronounced that way. Maybe Launa Rain (seems almost Polynesian this way?) would be the best spelling.
DS1's name is Jaret and we have gotten a lot of Janet for him- is Janet a common name these days?:headscratch: Let alone for a boy!?! We had considered spelling it Jarrett but I thought no I'll keep it simple- why add extra unnecesary letters- right? Well now I wish I did. It is hard to think of everything.

Re: Changing the name?
I agree, Raine isn't going to be confused with Renee...but I did think Lana was Laaayna...long a. Very cute though!
