Please tell me this will get better

DS is 2 weeks old and nurses CONSTANTLY. I mean literally he's latched on all day and most of the night. If he's not on the boob, then he's screaming. I can't go anywhere or do anything but nurse him. It makes it hard to take care of my older kids! If I have to make them food or something, he just has to cry. It kills me. I have given him formula a couple times and he slept for 3 hours afterward. :headscratch: I don't want to stop nursing, but I'm hearing the formula's swan song. Is this ever going to get better? I even ordered some domperidone in case this is a supply issue. I nursed DD, but she didn't do this so I feel like a new mom!

Ok, I promise, it does get better!!!!

Have you tried a sling, then you could pop him in and let him nurse but you can move around and have free arms???

hang in there. The first growth spurt is usually at 10 days. It can take a couple days for your supply to adjust!

Nurse nurse nurse and make sure he's getting hindmilk. Is he gassy?? Green poop??

It will get better! I gave my DS formula a couple times (about 2-3 times per week in the first month) just because it seemed like we would hit times when he was just impossible to satisfy. Now we are at 5 months and we are EBF. He is totally into the pacifier though. That is another thing - I let him have the pacifier right from the beginning. I wasn't worried about the confusion warnings. I had mastitis w/my first and wasn't about to go down that road again b/c he was nursing just for comfort and not for food. It is even harder with a kid/kids b/c they need you too - so I really feel for you. Hang in there - hope it gets easier soon!

It will get better.

I'll say it again, It WILL get better!

It will get better.

He's probably hitting his first growth spurt, and you need to just nurse nurse nurse him through it to build up your supply.

My DD was killing me at that age as well. Don't know how you feel about a pacifier, but that seemed to really help- DD was gaining weight really well though & it didn't affect nursing ( in terms of skipping normal feedings) at all.
Hang in there!!
oh, and I second the ring sling idea:goodvibes:

I wonder this too? We had this same issue, and it turned out that I couldn't consume any dairy products while nursing DD. He didn't fuss when you gave him the formula tho, and that has the protein in it from cow's milk - so that may not be it.

It does get better momma!! Your milk is just adjusting to his needs - so be sure to just nurse, nurse, nurse so your supply gets to be where he needs it. My bestfriend has complained of this same problem w/her DS, and now he's a little ebf chunker! You will make it, and be so happy that you choose to keep w/it! :hugs:
