Anyone here make their own granola or raw bars?
 
Hey mama's I love the raw bars, and granola bars from my local heath food stores. They are $$ and I would like to budget and even add more variety to the snack/meal bar menu.

How can I make my own? Is it like making rice crispy bars (only without the marshmellows lol)? I have googled, and not come up with much help.

Anyone here make their own?

for the rice crispy treats:

I get Erewhon Gluten free brown rice crispy cereal, on the back is this wonderful treat:

1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1/2 cup Honey (I use rice syrup too with great success)
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon (I usually omit this)
2 cups of cereal

Mix all ingredients together except cereal. Mix in cereal. I use a cookie scoop to measure balls, wet hands and roll them to round balls. They are sticky at this stage so I typically put them on parchment paper for a few hours. YUMMM

Another way:

Bring to a boil 1 cup of Rice Syrup
2 tbs of a nut butter, I use peanut
remove from heat and add 6 cups of crispy brown rice or
4 cups of brown rice and 2 cups of Envirokidz peanut butter panda puffs

Pour out to a casserole dish oiled ( I sometimes use a 9x9 or 9x13 depending on how thick I want them) with an oiled foil sheet or back of a large spoon flatten the top.

This is fantstic too:

Raw Caramel Dip
This dip is very easy to make, you just need a few hours for the dates and cashews to soak. And I suppose it isn't technically "raw" because it contains maple syrup and cashews that are not truly raw. You can also thin this out with extra water and drizzle it over your favorite dessert.

1 cup raw cashews
1 cup medjool dates, pitted (about 8 to 10 dates)
1/4 cup grade B maple syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla
pinch sea saltdate soaking water as needed

Place the cashews into a small bowl and cover with water. Let soak at room temp for about 2 to 3 hours. Place the pitted dates into a separate small bowl and cover with water. Let soak for about 2 to 3 hours.

To make the dip, drain and rinse the cashews then place them into a blender or Vita-Mix along with the dates (save the water), maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Add about 6 to 8 tablespoons of the date soaking water and blend. Blend until ultra smooth, scraping down the sides if needed.
Scoop out into small bowls and serve with sliced fresh apples. Source: www.NourishingMeals.com

Raw Energy Balls (from The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook)

This is a great snack to take with you on a long hike or a long day at work. You can also add one to your child’s lunchbox for a sweet, nutritious treat.

1 cup raw almonds or walnuts
1 cup medjool dates, pitted
cup raisins
teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon ground cardamom
cup raw almond butter peanut butter
shredded organic coconut I leave this out

In a food processor fitted with the “s” blade grind the almonds until finely ground. Add the dates, raisins, and spices. Grind to a fine meal. Add the almond butter, process again until thoroughly mixed.

Form into balls and roll in shredded coconut. Store in a sealed container on the counter for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.

i used to follow this blog of a raw vegan family but she stopped. man she had some great raw recipes!!!!! i really wish i had written more of them down!

I've made this granola before and it turns out pretty well. It uses a dehydrator.

Mothering's website has a recipe section, and I have made both of the granola bar recipes on there. I prefer the regular one over the pumpkin one, but both are good.

I love granola and once you make it- you can throw just about anything in it. I use dry oatmeal, enough melted butter to coat, raisins, coconut, nuts, fried cranberries, etc and put in the oven until brown and dry. Pretty easy and I store it to make parfaits with it.

Karly Campbell's granola bars on Tasty Kitchen are amazing! Most of the other recipes I found used a lot of corn syrup to hold them together. This one is delicious!

ETA: Oops... just reread that you were looking for raw. Sorry! I put "granola" and "bars" together in my mind!

This recipe looks so good and easy! I was all set to make it tonight, but was unexpectedly out of oil. :banghead: Oh well, something to look forward to tomorrow! Anyone else tried this?
