Hard water
 

Ive just begun shopping and buying all these diapers to build my stash and just ran across a thread mentioning the diaper having rust spots from hard water wash. $*%!. I never even thought of that. :banghead: Have I just spent this money for nothing because I cannot cloth diaper at a place with hard water?

We have hard water and have never had rust spots. The worst we get is the insides get a little grey and aren't bright white.

Rockin Green detergent makes a formula especially for hard water.

Tide liquid works wonders with our gross hard water. My diapers come out clean and smelling delightful.

I have really hard water, and use Tide f&c with no problems. I couldn't use the diaper-specific detergents though. Even the "hard water" ones.

we have hard water, I just use citric acid in the wash every now and then to keep things clean and stop anything going crunchy. Other than that no issues here...

we had REALLY bad hard water where we used to live. Pocket diapers were HORRIBLE, and always gave bad rashes. what really added to this was we didn't have any way of running Hot water to the washing machine.. Miserable. My best advice is to add water softener to each load if you start seeing rashes or rust spots.. we never did have rust spots, even though our shower could turn orange in a few days!

we had a lot better success with pre-folds, because they can be boiled, and the rashes went away in pre-folds. pockets just did not work.

We have really hard water, use pockets, and have no issues at all! I use All F&C, but am going to try out LuLu's hard water detergent.

If you're water is really super hard, you can try adding Calgon to your wash :thumbsup:

We have hard water and the Hard Rock detergent has worked well for us. It's been four months so far without any issues.
