Insane Baby Acne

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I can't find anything closer, so here goes:

Baby #5 is just over 2 mos old and he's got the worst baby acne ever!!! Not like the little red bumpy baby acne that comes from the hormones of my body changing from 'partum' to 'post' but BIG, yucky, pus-filled whiteheads. ICK! I mean, GROSS! And they're plentiful, too. Like a dozen in a 3" radius.

I had a non-hormonal IUD put in at 8wks (he IS #5, after all), and that was just before it started up...but it's not the Mirena. It's just plastic & copper.

Anyone else have similar problems?

I would take him to see the doctor for a possible referral to a dermatologist. There might be more going on then just baby acne.
Also, how often are you bathing him and what type of soap do you use? My baby had acne that turned into eczema (that turned into MRSA -staph infection and is now resolved) and the derm says to bathe her every 2-3 days and lightly wipe her worst spots down with a terry cloth washcloth (just a light swipe or two - no scrubbing) and to only use Cetaphil or Dove Unscented soap on her because of her skin. Maybe something to consider :-)

It kind of sounda more like eczema. I do think a visit to the doctor would be a good start!

I also have a copper IUD. No issues with DD's skin though. She had baby acne prior to me getting it, but it has since cleared up.

eh, I think that some babies get it worse than others. I'd give it more time to clear up before stressing out. I think my son had it until about 2 months old, but my daughter had it a bit longer. I think I have a pic on here some where. My kids didn't have the puss or big acne, but it was all over their faces, and quite red at times.
This is my daughter at 5 1/2 weeks

And my son at about 4 weeks.

FWIW, dd3 had a bad case of it and as soon as I switched her to California Baby Super Sensitive hair and body wash it was gone. She is now 16mo and hasn't had it since.

Really they don't need any soap, so you can cut all soaps out. I found virgin coconut oil to be the best baby product. It's anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-somethingelse. We used it on baby acne (as well as mine), dry scalp, rashes and as a general lotion. Can you post a picture? It's hard to say if it's regular baby acne or something that needs to be checked out.

When's your next well-baby appointment?

take him into the pediatrician, just to ease your worries if nothing else.

baby acne can look REALLY bad, i have 4 boys and they all had it around 1 month of age for several weeks.

get rid of all soaps for washing, coconut oil works to wash with. And wash your clothes and baby's clothes in something that if frangrance free and natural. Clothing is often a big factor in baby acne. No softener, dryer sheets or perfume. If someone else holds the baby, protect their face with a blanket so it doesn't touch their clothes/perfume.

my baby's acne cleared up when I made sure his skin didn't touch anything contaminated with fragrance.
