Is this tea safe?

Can anyone tell me if the ingredients in this tea are safe to drink while nursing? My little one's only six weeks old and gets all his nourishment from me. I don't want to drink anything that might be bad for him, but I also need a little help getting rid of this baby weight!

I'd call the Infant Risk Hotline and ask them about it. That would be my best advice. ;) (806)352-2519 They are experts on what is and isn't safe while breastfeeding and they are suuuuper helpful!

These links have some helpful info on each of the ingredients listed:

RE: Gymnema - (this one concerns me a little :nervous: but I'm not sure how effective/potent the dose is in the tea... it might not be a good idea :2cents:) http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supple...ntName=GYMNEMA

HTH!

Honestly, I think that if you try to eat a balanced diet, lots of fruits and veggies, drink enough water and do some light exercise (walks around the park with LO in a carrier, perhaps :)) you should be able to lose the baby weight just with breastfeeding. Breastfeeding, alone, burns about 500-600 calories a day!!! When moms do a lot of weight-loss type things on top of that, what I typically see is that it stresses out their body and they not only tend to hold onto the weight but their milk supply suffers, as well. :( I'd just focus on healthy, nutritious foods and mild/mod exercise and nurse, nurse, nurse! :goodvibes:

FWIW, I gained 29 lbs with my pregnancy and got back to pre-pregnancy weight at about 4-5 months pp. I continued losing and I'm now smaller than I have ever been. I weigh about 15 lbs less than before baby. LO is now 13.5 months.

It happened gradually, though and I have over-supply. My supply has never suffered and anytime I was hungry, I ate. I don't count calories or worry too much about having a bit more of something. I just try to eat as healthy as I can. :)

Thanks! I'll call the hotline in the morning to double-check, but I think you're probably right that I should avoid it. Too bad, it sounds pretty good. :(

Sorry! I don't mean to deflate your balloon... :(

Maybe after your LO is a little older? Maybe when they aren't nursing as much or have weaned, it could be a fun thing to try. :)

That's okay. :) You just said the same thing my gut was telling me. I just didn't want to listen to it! I NEED to lose my baby weight by summer otherwise the bridesmaids dresses for the two weddings I'm in aren't gonna fit! I'll just have to get serious and lose it the old-fashioned way.

I gained weight while nursing my DD. Yay me. I was eating for comfort because while I couldn't take a nap when I was exhausted (which was all the time with my non-sleeping baby :)), I could sure eat!!

This time I'm much more conscious of what I eat and I'm back to pre-DS weight, but not quite pre-DD weight. I do hope to get there, though.

I do think that herbal tea, even without weight loss ingredients, is a nice "comfort food" that you can treat yourself to when the day is hectic. I have some at least once a day and it keeps me from eating for comfort instead. It's just a nice ritual that is a treat, and it does seem to replace some not-so-weight-friendly habits of mine.
