We're still in the NICU but doing okay. I've been pumping so he's been EBF. He's hit every milestone except taking his feeds. They expect we have about 2 weeks left in the NICU. I've been fine, very easy c section, just struggling with my body's failure to carry to term.

Don't worry, mama. I have heard several times that it can be caused from having pregnancies very close together. I have a 3.5 year old DS, an almost 2 year old Surro-DD, a 10 month old Surro-DD, and am due 3/18 with our own DD. So I have had 4 pregnancies in the last 3.5 years. I carried all of them full term, but my body does not like to efface or dilate, so I actually have to help it along. But it IS quite normal to have preterm labor with a 3rd or 4th subsequent very close pregnancy. Even with my body wanting to go overdue, #1 was 40 weeks (induced), #2 was 39 weeks and #3 was 38 weeks. They are expecting I will go before 37 (thinking 35).. but we will see. Your body may just need a rest before another little one if you want it to be able to carry full term again. :)

:hugs:

Yeah it wasn't the PTL that got us, it was the autoimmune disease. Despite the blood thinners and other meds it got us WAY earlier than the DR expected.

autoimmune disease is a big factor in preterm labor- my mom had three preterm pregnancies, and was later on (10 years later) diagnosed with lupus. I also know personally other women who suffered preterm labor before being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and personally I am convinced that they are very interconnected. I think that in 10 more years research studies will really back this up. I should also say that my mom was only 20 when she had her first preterm pregnancy, and 21 with the next, so I don't think that age is a huge factor, but rather the health of a person's immune system. A young person can have a very compromised immune system, and an older person can have a great one; it's dependent a lot on the way the mom was herself fed as a baby, what she grew up eating, how many antibiotics and medications she was on...etc. Also, every pregnancy drains the mother's body, so if she isn't careful to build up her body and nutritive stores between each pregnancy, it can leave her more and more immuno-compromised, which can make each pregnancy more difficult.

I hope that your recovery is going well, and please take care of yourself, even with all of the kids!
