Ideas for building charecter

So my dd1 is very selfish and looks focused. I realize a lot of it is the age thing but it's still something I'd like to work on I'm just a bit stumped for ideas. I mean we talk about doing things for others and that what's on the outside doesn't matter and it helps a little but not much. Any ideas?

How old is she? Can you get her involved in volunteering somewhere that she can see how her efforts make others happy (like a soup kitchen or donating toys to a shelter)? I've found with my kids that seeing the results sparks a pride in them that can inspire more acts of altruism!

Working for others. Chores around the house, projects that benefit someone else, cooking for the family, volunteering.....nothing will teach character better than hard work. even if she is young, she can start earning her allowance and earning any extras.

We do chores and we volunteer once month doing crafts at a nursing home. We could maybe go more often and just volunteer to visit.

Oh and she's 4.5 so not quite ready to do cooking.

are we maybe expected to much out of such a young child? chores, helping around the house would be a good idea

maybe have her help with cooking? you know, little things like handing you ingredients maybe have her help take out the pots and pans. just little things to make her feel like she really took part in the cooking.

Not sure if you're religious, but I'm planning on getting this book:

A Child's Book of Character Building
