Weight gain

Since birth my baby has gained a little over three pounds. He is a month old today. Is that normal? Is it possible that I am over feeding him? Also at his very first appt when he was a little over a week old he gained a little over a pound going from 6 13 leaving the hospital to 8 3 eight days later. He only drinks breastmilk.

My peanut is also a month old today and has gained 2.5 lbs. I definitely wouldn't be concerned about a 3lb gain and unless he has a syndrome, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to over feed him breastmilk (he would spit up any extra). Babies are amazing at knowing exactly what they need to grow exactly perfect for themselves :)

If you are exclusively breastfeeding, according to my pediatrician, you cannot overfeed a baby. They grow FAST for the 1st 6 months, then slow down some, then really slow closer to 12 months. I think at they age they are supposed to gain like an ounce a day??? As long as baby is happy, healthy, and otherwise ok, then please do not try and control his feedings. He's doing great!! :)

If u are exclusively NURSING than baby can not over feed. By bottle is different.

I agree with the pp. If you are feeding at the breast it's impossible to overfeed.

He has been getting a bottle of breastmilk 2 times a week. I've been putting two to three ounces in there. And he finishes it. What do u think ?

I still say you are just fine to let him nurse on demand even with 2 bottles a week :)

I think you're fine. My DS2 went from 7lbs 8oz at birth to 10 lbs 5oz at a month. Breast fed babies gain notoriously fast the first 3 mths.

Sounds complety fine. 2-3 ounces is perfect for a bf baby. Fwiw a friend of mine's baby was ebf and was 36lbs by 6-7 months. Every baby can be so different from the next.

Mine usually gain about a lb a week for the first few months and then slow down. Some bf babies get REALLY chubby! I loved it! My biggest fatty is now almost 14 and a size 0 at 5'8". So don't listen to anyone who tells you to not feed so much. You are doing a great job!!
