Will switching to convertible seat help baby like the car more?

Hi all, I'm sure there are A LOT of other babies out there that hate the car too - all though I've never met one. Everyone says they drive their baby around so they WILL sleep but our baby (6mo) just screams in terror and refuses to sleep. I've heard somewhere that a possibility is that she hates her infant car seat (basic Graco snugride) and she may find a convertible more comfortable? Has anyone else tried this? Thanks so much - we'll try anything!

Thus worked for us when my older son was a baby. When he was 2 months we switched him from middle in his infant seat to outboard in a convertible and it was totally different. :)

For some babies it can be very helpful. Our first DD hated the bucket and still was not crazy about riding in a conv. seat until she was tall enough to see out. LO4 has severe reflux and we stupidly tried a bucket for her even though we always have bypassed the bucket. I think the seat bite was a bit deep to accomodate leg length in a taller baby because it had a 35lb rfing limit but it was squishing her tummy:cry: We bough her a TrueFit and she has been much happier. I wish I had btter advice but some babies take up to a year or even longer to get comfy ridding in the car:hugs: I think it is certainly worth a try.

I have heard of plenty hating the infant carseat and doing much better in a convertible. Worth a try since you'll need to get one eventually anyway.

It helped for awhile with DD, but wasn't the be-all, end-all. All 3 kids eventually grew out of it. But it was awful going through it!

Wow thanks everyone! Also, our baby does have reflux, I feel stupid now that I hadn't thought of that as being a reason she'd hate a bucket seat! Guess we'll go for it now!

We have a graco smart seat that is a convertable and so amazing. It has so many features for recling your LO foreward or rear facing. It goes up to 100lbs and even has a base kind of like an infant carseat to make transitioning cars easier. It is a bit on the pricy side but so worth it to mean. My DD loves it and we moved her about 8 months.

Both of my kids started bucking the infant seat eventually (DS was about 10 months, DD was 12-13 months - both are small kids that still fit infant seat at a year old). They just started hating the "buckling in" process and screamed until the car started moving. As soon as we switched to the more spacious convertible seat, they were happy. I think it was a space thing.

Yes it worked for is with my ds2, we moved him from a bucket to a convertible and he loved car rides from then on. With my dd2 now, we started with a convertible and so skipped the possible problem with having a bucket again.

Re: Will switching to convertible seat help baby like the car more?

I'm going to bump this for updates! So since July when we switched DD to her convertible seat she STILL hates the car. We moved her to a window instead of the middle wondering if that would help and it still doesn't. She also still screams when in a stroller (facing either direction - our stroller switches to face us). She's almost 11 months. Has anyone still had this problem at this age? We're taking her to a developmental specialist, we're getting concerned about her problem with confinement. Could this be a sensory issue? She seems fine otherwise - very smart & friendly - waves to people, not shy, etc. We're getting cabin fever because we can't leave the house without it being a nightmare though! Any advice?
