Can i paint yarn without bleeding?

Not me, lol, the yarn! How do I keep the colors from bleeding together, or is that just what always happens?

More concentrated dye (less water) and sponge brushes are what I used for hand painting. The more liquid involved, the more it will run. Also soak the yarn in the acid before painting it so the dye sticks quickly. I also put on a spin cycle to get out the extra water before painting.

Thanks! I've been using squirt bottles, I'll try thicker dye and sponges next time.

I use a plastic spoon, not foam brushes, and slowly spoon the dye on.

I don't spin out my yarn either, I just hand squeeze it after I soak it. I also put a little citric acid in the dye.

What does the citric acid do?

It's just like vinegar, but doesn't smell. I use it instead of vinegar because my dh hates the way vinegar smells.

Oh, good to know! I'm guessing crushed up vitamin c would work the same.?.?.

No, I don't think vit C will work. Not to mention, it will cost a lot more than just buying citric acid or vinegar. Depending on how you're dyeing, you might need a few TBS of citric acid. How much citric acid is in vit C? I don't think that vit C tabs are 100% citric acid, what about the other "stuff" in the pills? It might interfere with the dyeing process.

Hmm, I already have some vit C so I was trying to avoid having to buy anything else. I'll take a look at the ingredients, if there's additives ill just use vinegar :)
