Odd smell, weird stains
I bought a pair of wool longies off of a FB BST page. I had bought quite a few pieces from different people and didn't do any more examination than that they appeared as described. The pair in question were described as NWT. They were the last pair on my list to lanolize. I put them in warm water, no wool wash, nothing in there but water and wool. When I took them out... they REEKED. I couldn't figure out what the smell was, it smelled like old nasty food. There are also weird white marks (see picture). I didn't lano or anything, once I noticed the smell/marks I put them aside to dry and figure out what to do.
I contacted the admins on the BST page and they said since I "washed them" (which I didn't, just got them wet) there was nothing that could be done.
Its been a couple days and the smell is STILL THERE. I figured out what it is, they smell like old bananas. Confirmed by the fact I have a banana allergy and um... that's why my throat ended up getting nasty scratchy.
I'm not sure what to do :(
Re: Odd smell, weird stains
It looks like lanolin build up to me, could have happened the first time they were prepped either by the seller or the biz. I'd suppose that you are allergic to whatever wool wash was used on them prior and unfortunately you're stuck. Soaking them in cold water and dawn and lots of rinsing should help.
