sleep training

Ok...my son is 6 months old and I want him to start sleeping in his crib. He sleeps pretty much all night every night in bed with us, and usually wakes up if I move him or get up. Any advice?

I always transitioned them from co-sleeping to their crib starting with daytime naps. Usually this gets them used to the crib and then when night time comes, it's just like another nap to them, kind of.

you can also put the shirt you've been wearing all day under them so that they still have your scent right there.

Thanks! I will try both of those!

I believe some of the big sleep training books (Weissbluth, Ferber) address this. I just can't remember exactly where. But it'd be worth looking at them. I think everything I've read just suggests a very gradual approach--like... put the baby in the crib right next to your bed, then move it incrementally farther away every night until it's in a different room. Good luck!

They definitely need lots of time to get used to the new arrangements.

He slept in his crib last night! It was awesome, no tears! I am going to try again tonight!

So glad it went well for you mama! In case you do end up needing more help/time/transitioning, this book worked wonders for both of my kids! It's a very gentle method, and you only have to read the beginning and then the chapter for your LOs age, not the whole thing, so it reads pretty quick!

Thank you! He slept in his crib again last night until 4, then cried and I went and got him. He probably would have went back in his crib but I fell asleep :/
