Ring Sling fabric too thick?

A sweet friend of mine made us a ring sling. She told me all about how you need to use a fabric with no stretch like linen or denim and use special rings. The sling itself is beautiful. I cannot get it adjusted well once the baby is in it. I try to adjust it as best as possible before hand, but once the baby is in it, the fabric is so thick i cannot pull it for the life of me! Is there anything i can do to adjust this , maybe sew the tail narrower? or grease the rings?

:headscratch:

I feel awful cause she spent a ton of time researching everything to make sure it is perfect. I know she spent a lot of money on fabric. She keeps asking for pictures too.

You have to hold the baby's weight off the fabric as you adjust.

Then you have to pull the top rail across your body, the middle fabric downward, and the lower rail out from your body. That will help.

It might also just need to be broken in a bit. Maybe wash it, tie it in a knot...

I hope some more babywearers have some suggestions.

Yep, definitely lift the baby's weight while adjusting. I like to find the slack and the follow it around toward the rings, lift baby a bit and then pull on the slack on the other side of the rings. It takes some practice to figure out how it all works!

I find it hard to adjust in general. Could washing it help? if so, should i wash it on hot?

So i washed it for 2 cycles on hot and dried it and still not much improvement. I wish i had a local momma to show me what I'm doing wrong!

Has anyone ever made a sling that could maybe look at the construction of this and tell me if it needs altered?

What kind of fabric is it? Are you new to BWing? I only ask bc when I first started I had a heck of a time! To break it in you can wash as you obviously already have, iron it (this is why I asked what kind of fabric) lay on it, sleep with it, let the kids play with it. Basically anything to soften it up. Maybe you could take a pic and post it also? :)
