What does it take...

To become a certified Lactation Consultant??
I have gotten such amazing support and help from some wonderful LCs. I'd love to do that for another woman. Are most LCs nurses with this additional training?
Thanks in advance for anyone who knows.

Most LC's in my area are also RN's. Is it required? No. Will it make finding work easier? Yes. Becoming an LC involves coursework and lost of clinical hours. There are several pathways to do this, however.

I suggest you look at starting with becoming a lactation educator. Unless you have a degree I. The health field, this certification helps speed the process. It cost me $650 (I think) and included 40 hours class time and clinical work.

Do you have to have a four-year degree to become a lactation consultant?

No. But there are pathways. If you already have a health based degree, you bump up in the pathway. There are courses that speed the pathway. Like here, after I took my certification course, I could then take an LC course but it's local. And it's not online at all.

Just start googling and you will see the pathways.
