I'm wanting to try using Mrs. Myers fabric softener in our wash routine. I've read that people have no issues using it on their natural fabric diapers, which is all our stash is - GMD WHs, Sbish multis and OBFs. My question is - do I need to take out our BGEs, fleece liners, and fleece lined hemp inserts prior to adding the softener? Currently I've just been using vinegar but I'm hoping to supplement with Mrs. Myers to help boost the softness of our fitteds.

I use mrs Meyers on all my pockets, flats and prefolds. I've never had an issue.

:bump: still trying to figure out if I need to take out any of our fleece items - liners and hemp doublers with fleece - and our BGEs?

I use Ecover, and don't take out anything except covers only because there's nothing on them to soften. Fabric softener, even non-cd safe, actually helps fleece to repel water, so I'd leave your fleece and hemp in too.

Sent from my iPhone that has a mind of its own

Re: Fabric Softeners

I take out everything synthetic and only use the softener on natural fibers. Its a bit of a pain but I did a little testing and found that the synthetics with softener didnt absorb as quickly so I didnt want to risk it. Diapers like BGEs are find because it doesnt affect the PUL but I did find that it affected my fleece items.

For those who use softeners, do you use it every time you wash? Any issues with buildup?

I do it every time with mrs Meyers. I found with ecover that it caused a little build up if I used it every time. I could skip a wash and still have soft diapers. :)

I really like my diapers nice and soft, so I use ecover every time and dont have issues. I just use it on natural fibers though.
