I am looking at getting a pressure canner from amazon as I have $50 in gc. Problem is I know nothing about pressure canners or cookers. I was looking at some 16 quart canners for $70. I would only have to kick in another $20 to get it. I would really like to be able to can 4-6 quarts at a time. Would this size be large enough? I am mostly looking to can chicken broth or convenience foods such as chilli or spaghetti sauce. With allergies in the house everything is made from scratch. It would be nice on busy days to not have to worry about meals. Also I was seeing primarily 2 brands Presto and Mirro. Which one would be the better one to go with?

I have an 18 qt. Presto and I like it. The box says it will do 7 quart, but I think the most I've ever put in mine is 6. I got mine at Wal-Mart for around $80, so I think the $70 for a bit smaller sounds right on price-wise. Mine is 6-7 years old and I've never had to replace seals or do anything like that. It might help though that I use mine nearly year round. I usually can a batch of broth at least every other week or so, and then obviously the garden type stuff in the summer/fall.
I also use it as my water bath canner-just don't put the lid on.
