Accredited versus not...does it matter?
 

What are the advantages of accredited? Is it for colleges? Does it matter? My only experience with homeschool so far is my DH's. They were all homeschooled but have been done since 2007. I'm sure some things have changed.

If you're talking for early elementary, it doesn't make a difference whatsoever. For high school an accredited program usually means an actual diploma instead of just one made by you plus professional transcripts.

We sent our son to a private christian school that was not accredited. He started kindergarten a year before he would have if in public schools. My husband is military and when we moved (son now in first grade), the public school was going to make him go back to kindergarten since he didn't make the age requirement and our school was not accredited even though he was reading and doing all work in cursive. I did thankfully find a loop hole. If his age would not have been off I don't think there would have been a problem.

If a program isn't accredited, the high school diploma may not be accepted as legitimate by colleges or employers.

95 percent of all american colleges accept homeschool transcripts. Even harvard and yale.

Accredited is a PITB. Tried it many times. (It really only matters for highschool anyways)

My 2 highschoolers want to go to colleges that accept homeschool transcripts anyways.

It really doesnt matter.
