help - 8 month old refusing bottle
I was bfing my baby and she is now 8.5 months old. For the last 2 weeks I've been very sick and now on a bunch of drugs and my milk started to dry up. I seriously don't have milk anymore (only can feed maybe 1x a day). I need to wean completely. She won't take a bottle. We've never had this situation before. She will not take a sippy, either. We have been able to spoon feed formula and formula mixed with some cereal and fruit. Any suggestions on best sippy cups or bottles? I don't think she likes the feel of the artificial nipple (she also doesn't use a pacifier - only her hands/thumb). Any suggestions?

I would offer a straw cup and keep offering a bottle(different ones if possible). I use to work in a daycare and saw this problem a lot. There were 2 holds that we found worked for most babies. Either cradle holding them like you were breastfeeding with the bottles nipple exactly over your nipple or with the babys back on your chest sitting on your lap facing out and giving the bottle like that. Some kids though just needed time. They all came around to drinking out of a sippy, straw cup or bottle eventually. Gl mama

I also recommend trying a straw cup. Also recommend the holds my2sweets suggested.

My DD started to self wean at about 6 months old and would only take a straw cup. We used cups like this . I think the key was the silicone straw and soft top.

Re: help - 8 month old refusing bottle
Thank you for the suggestions! The hold where she on my lap facing out was best and she finally took a full bottle tonight! I think the cradle hold is too much like bfing and she wants to see why she isn't nursing... I got her to take a playtex nurser - after a bit of protest- she latched on and drank it all up. I'm so relieved! Thank you for your help. We also had decent luck right before the bottle worked - with a playtex hard spout sippy. I'm sort of shocked she tolerated that (they are my toddler's) but she seemed to be ok with it because it was hard and not squishy. The bottle is much more natural - more like bfing - and I think she was hungry enough and getting sleepy and finally took it. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Yay! I'm glad you found something she'd take :)
