Name "suggestions" from others
Do you find this annoying? How do you deal with it when they act a little insulted that you don't like their name or that it's not in the running?

DH's mom, VERY early on, wanted us to consider a name that is totally never ever going to be an option. Even DH didn't like it. It is apparently a name that DH's mom had always wanted to name a daughter, had she had one. (Zoey). She wasn't too upset about it.

But my mom suggests names regularly. I feel bad because I think she really does put a lot of thought into it. I've tried telling her we'll consider it, put it on the list, etc but she asks regularly about names if I say that. So I've started just politely saying something like, "It's a nice name but not really our style", or insert other reason depending on what the name is. She doesn't come up with bad names, but they aren't names we are interested in and she thinks that because DS's name is technically Irish orgins that DS2's name should be Irish as well (both her parents are from Ireland so her whole family is very Irish) or she thinks a matchy matchy name would be really cute. FWIW, I don't relate to this whole Irish thing like my mom and aunts all do, and we did not pick DS's name because it's Irish. We just loved the name, and it happened to be Irish YK?

We honestly probably HAVE a name we both like but I can't quite pull the trigger on it. We've told her this but she still suggests names.

Is this common? This wasn't an issue with DS because we had his name picked super early on, as in before his gender was even known LOL

I think you're handling it fine. Nothing else to do really. It'll only last another 3 months! ;)

My SIL text me names all the time. Especially family names which I would never use. She is always on finding names from some random distant relative that would just be perfect for our baby. I just brush it off usually but when they are horrible I tell her- never in a million years.

My in laws suggest names...they're all old crazy family names ( like Borgield) but its all in good fun. There's no way I would let someone else name our baby!

Re: Name "suggestions" from others
I'd just say thanks for the idea, maybe we'll add it to our list. Or, if it's really bothering you, just ask her to stop giving ideas.

I've only had one person give me a name suggestion, and it wasn't even really a suggestion - she'd had a dream that we had a girl and named her Isabelle.

FWIW, I like Zoe - actually I don't like the name itself all that much (I mean, it's okay, but not a "really wanna use it" name), but it means "life" and I like that :) DH would never go for Zoe though, I just know it!

No, it doesn't really bother me. It just seems to bother her that we aren't choosing one of the names she suggests.

Ah! Well, then... whatever. Ignore her and her being bothered. Not her baby, not her choice.

This is why we made decisions on girl and boy names before I was even out of the first trimester. No debate about it lol. I get plenty of opinions on other things (ie circumcision) but I don't have much advice other than to name your child what you want. They will get over it eventually.

I like getting suggestions because even though I think we know our name, I still love to hear ideas.

My mother in law had some strange names that she was trying to sell us on. She had all boys, so I think she feels like she really missed out on being able to name a girl. I just smile politely while cringing in my head. We don't share our names with anyone IRL, we announce once the baby is born so that no one can ruin them for us or steal them ;)
