Help! How did you get your child to sleep thru the night?!!

Well ds2 is 16 months old and a terrible terrible sleeper !!!! He usually wakes 2-4x after I put him to bed which is between 7-8pm . He wakes throughout the night to nurse as well . It probably doesn't help that he co sleeps and now im trying to get him to sleep in his crib which is side car to my bed . I'm going crazy at 11 weeks pregnant!! I'm trying to night wean now were after a certain time I won't nurse . What worked for you !!!

Well I know that my DS had a growth spurt right around that age along with 2 yr molars starting to come thru. I used Jay Gordon's website to help night wean my DS. Do it gradually and be consistent. Every kid has a different personality so you just have to find what works for your situation. Good luck!

Honestly, DS STTN for the last 3 nights for the 1st time EVER. We had to night wean and then ONLY DH could go into his room when he woke up. DH would shush him, rub his back, give him a sippy of cold water and stand there until he fell back asleep. He had to do this about 2-3 times a night for about 2 months. Typically, DS would go back to sleep within 5-10mins or less. I also had to change our night diapers to Pampers Baby Dry as they seem to do the best with keeping him feeling dry. If he feels wet at all, he wakes up. He is pretty much weaned now and I think that is why he is STTN, finally. He also will now take his naps in his crib without me holding and nursing him the whole time. I think he became so dependent on me and "the boob" as my DH puts it so eloquently, that we had to teach him he didn't need it or me to sleep.

I stopped nursing at night, and DH went in when the kids woke. After a few nights of that, both kids just stopped waking up.

With DS, I tried doing it gradually by pushing the nursing cut off earlier, and the next nursing later, but he'd slowly start waking more frequently. It was only when I stopped nursing completely that he actually slept. With DD I stopped cold turkey and it took a few nights. I did wait until she was only waking twice a night though.

For us it was night weaning with DH on call for night wakings as well. It's not perfect. My 3.5 and 2 year old still wake up most nights. 3.5 year old often crawls in bed with us. But is helped.

DS didn't STTN until he night weaned (last feeding around 8 and first feeding around 5). He had a short feed that lasted all of 10 minutes max at 12:30-1 AM (around 7 months) that I had him drop since he wasn't really nursing, just using me to go back to sleep. He fussed all of 1 min two nights in a row and that was that :) oh, and he had to go to his own room at 8 months. If he saw us, he was up!

My 3 and 4 year olds still wake up many times at night. We even have sleep meds and a specialist for them. I wish I knew how to get them to sleep all night with no waking or to self sooth back to sleep. They call out to us and scream if we do not come right away.

I got pregnant with a 14month nurser. Supply dropped to like nothing which is probably why urs is waking so much. If u want to keep nursing try mother milk plus. I didn't know about it til too late. What helped us was adding solids & lots of stimulation/play. Try later night time.
