How to fold flat as pocket insert

What is the best way to fold a flat (in my case, a receiving blanket) for inserts. I need them to be absorbent and, if possible, trim. Thanks in advance!

Fold in half, fold in half again, then fold in thirds.

I like this for stuffing in pockets. :)

I use the fold in my sig line. It makes it more diaper shaped with more padding front and center, less on the butt.
