Normal for a newborn to do one giant poop a day?
 

My newborn is EBF, and takes one really, really big poop a day. It takes him about 5 minutes to do it. He does have a lot of gas during the day and sometimes he gets a little fussy because he needs to go. He will be 3 weeks tomorrow, was born at 9 lbs 3 oz, and is already over 10 pounds. Weight gain is fine and he has a pee diaper almost every hour. I'm assuming he's fine... just wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

Ebf babies have a very wide range of normal. Some poop every time they nurse. Others poop once every 5 days. Anywhere inbetween is normal. This can also change as baby grows. During the first couple months my youngest pooped 15x a day. He gradually slowed to every 3 days. Now he is 20 months old and on solids but nurse a lot still. He poops once daily.

agree. my newborn only few days onld poo 3 times mreconium in hospital but nothing but stinks at home so far....

OT Congratulations on your new baby!!

My first pooped once a week, always on Sunday mornings when we were at church. Tons of EFB poop everywhere! So yes perfectly normal to poop once a day.

Agree. Mine pooped about 8 times a day in the beginning (every feeding). My friend's pooped once a week!

Perfectly stated. My son is 4 weeks right now and he really only goes once a day, usually in the evening towards nighttime. Of course there are little smears occasionally in his diapers throughout the day but nothing like his once an evening diaper.

My little guy pooped at every change for the first 2 months. Now he does once a day at around 10am.

Lulu pooped once a day for the first couple weeks then had one MASSIVE earth-shaking poo every Thursday afternoon for her next 4 months. Now on solids shes pooping once every two or three days.

Totally normal. Mine either goes one huge poop a day or 3-4 small ones. No knowing what it's going to be either :)
