new BGE Vs. Flip (and action shots) *UPDATED use pics

Anna already put together an awesome review of the new Bum Genius Elemental diaper. http://www.hauteclothedbuns.com/

Since it's pretty much all been covered, the only thing I was left wondering is how they compare to Flips. Based on photos, it looked to me like a Flip with a soaker sewn in.

Sure enough, they are nearly identical in cut. In fact the only thing I can see is that the edges of the front panel have a slightly different shape (see first picture) but are still the same length and there's still the same snap configuration. This leaves me thinking of this as an AIO alternative to the Flip, and less of a re-design of the Elemental.

It seems like this gives you a trim fit with natural fibers that dry fast. You can also customize the absorbancy easily by folding the soaker where you need it or by adding inserts. I like the fit of Flip but don't like the hassle of a 2 part system... so this might be a great option for me, but maybe not so great as an alternative to the old Elemental (now discontinued).

The front inside has a more rounded shape so there's more soaker and less PUL.

Lots of room under the front to stick another insert. Although when the rise is snapped down, it's a little bulky here.

The back also has a more rounded cut to allow for more organic cotton.

And when you lift up in the back it's quite a bit different from the Flip. I think it would be fairly easy (at least compared to the elemental) to replace the soaker. Replacing the elastic would be about as challenging as it is on the Flip since it's basically the same.

And of course the action shots! Kiddo is 25lbs and about 34-35 inches tall. These pictures are on the middle rise setting.

Let me know if there's anything else you want pics of!

And here's day 1:

On the middle rise, the insert folded nicely and is ready for baby. But as it goes on and you pull up I think it mostly all came unfolded anyways.

I just love this color. A bit clunky of a fit, but basically the same fit as a Flip.

About an hour in I could have sworn it was wet. Maybe I'm loosing my mommy powers of knowing a wet diaper, maybe it just feels different than the others especially since it isn't fully prepped, and maybe I just couldn't wait to sneak a peek. But after an hour of wear, here's how it looks dry.

2 hours of wear on a very busy almost 2 year old, here's how the wet diaper came off the bum. I never thought I'd be showing off my kid's wet diaper and that people would be curious enough to look at it lol. If they're telling me that it isn't going to have exposed PUL, then they're lying! It isn't a problem for us, so I don't really care but I know others really don't like it exposed. And as far as absorbancy - I've got a light wetter so I knew we'd be fine. It could have held at least twice as much though. The whole back half and some of the front is bone-dry.

And here's another run in this diaper, also on the middle rise and worn for about an hour.

Here it is after DH put it on on the highest rise. Not sure how long she wore it like this.

Those look awesome! How was the absorbency?

She only wore it for the pics, so I don't know yet. I made her take it off because I wanted to get the pictures after she went to bed. But she's a light wetter, so I'm not worried. A single alva bamboo insert lasts through nap time... so I'm sure this will hold up fine.

Mine soaks a prefold within two hours. We literally just got the old bge Thursday and so far they're enough for him.

Awesome! thanks for the link and the photos!. I have to agree with you about the ease of this NEW bge, we also LOVE our flip system but it's true the 2 pieces are sometimes a pain. This may be the answer to that as long as exposed PUL is not an issue. I do think the price is still high for what it is.....

If they had marketed this as a Flip product and not an Elemental, people would have snatched it up like the brownie plate at a funeral.

ITA. Like, the Flip Free or something that insinuates the AIO nature but still focuses on the Flip.
