FOE substitute

I am working on a pair of trainers for my son and the pattern calls for FOE. Well I don't have any to match. Joann's only has limited colors and I don't really have the funds right now to purchase online anywhere else anyway.

But I do have on hand a wider elastic (like waistband elastic maybe?). Could I use that folded in half to bind the raw edges?

Re: FOE substitute

I saw somewhere, that the binding on thirsties covers (i think??) is actually PUL, not FOE. They make a binding (like a quilt binding) and cover the edge. (Personally I would choke on the cost of using so much pul but there you have it). How much do you need? I've got some black 3/8 and some other colors that are wider. If you find something stretchy that doesn't wick, maybe an old swim suit that doesn't fit? (Lord knows i've got those around!!!)

if you don't know how to make quilt binding, google it or pm me.

You can make binding and use PUL if they're waterproof, or cotton woven or even knit if they're not. You will need to put elastic under the binding, though.

Re: FOE substitute

I would use poly fleece as a binding, no need to fold twice and its soft.
