No Mudroom - what to do??

The lack of a mudroom in my house is finally starting to get on my nerves! We enter our house from the garage directly into our kitchen. We hang coats on a rack on the wall next to the door. Adjacent to that wall is an opening to our dining room. I have a bookcase there with fabric bins for shoe storage. At this time of year we also have winter boots congregating on the floor.
I am just tired of having coats hanging in my kitchen, and shoes in my dining room. We do have a small coat closet on the same level, but not next to the door.
I would love to hear ideas of how other people handle lack of mudrooms.

Can you carve out space to hang coats and leave boots in the garage right by the door?

We have these shoe shelves from Target, I bought 2 for like, 14 bucks I think, and all the shoes go in there, with rainboots on boot trays next to it.
Kinda like this, but much much cheaper. In the aisle with the cubes.

We put our winter boots in the garage, and hung coats on hangers on a coatrack in the garage. It was a big one with a long rod, and had a shelf above, and a shelf below for hats and gloves.

When we come in thru the garage, we leave our shoes in the garage and coats go in our own closets.

Front door opens directly into the living room, so I'm no help really. I WISH we had a useable garage. Our problem is that the door opens right into the living room and dining room. One side has about 12" of space before the dining room. The other wall has a huge heater there. So our going out stuff has no place to go.

We finally got an over the door rack that hangs in the hallway for the grown ups coats. And for 1 year old DD we're putting up some low hooks by the door with a little shelf (from ikea). There's also a little plastic tub sitting by the door with her shoes. Usually no snow here, just lots of cold rain year round.

In your situation I would set up a coat rack and the shoe shelf in the garage. You can put a bench there to put your shoes on and baskets underneath for gloves, scarves, etc.

Yeah, I had that same thought!! I have been wanting to move coats and boots out to the garage, but my garage is not heated, and gets cold here in New England. I don't think my DH would appreciate cold shoes and coat when he leaves for work in the morning :/
I suppose I could put things out there, and bring them in a few minutes before it's time to put them on. However, we have stairs and just a small landing outside the kitchen door.

We had a house in Texas like that. This was our entry:

Those are Tromme shoe shelving from Ikea, which are narrower than traditional shoe racks, and we got the rows of coat hooks from Ikea as well. We have three kids, they each got two drawers, one for socks and one for shoes. Boots rested on top of the lower ones, the top of the tallest one was where I put my keys and stuff.
