You can check time periods on the website for SOTW here: http://peacehillpress.com/history-an...the-world.html

We used the first two of these and while I thought she did a good job making history understandable and interesting, my kids didn't really like them. We won't use them again next year.

As for Mystery of History, we own the first one but this time, I was the one not in love. I wanted to love it, I just didn't.

You can get their time periods here: http://www.themysteryofhistory.info/

HTH!

ETA: I was planning to use this to combine the two if you'd be interested in it: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/sotwmoh.htm

This is exactly what we did as well. We got through the first third of each book though and we weren't loving it either. Some of that had to do with the amount of hands-on time I thought I could give history vs. what I could really give and while the girls and I thought the material itself was ok, none of us were ever thrilled about doing it. At Christmas we ditched ancients in favor of US History. Everyone is happy. We'll hist ancients in a couple years.

We're doing SOTW 1 and plan on using 2 next year. We haven't done a lot of projects. Mostly we've narrated, added some coloring, etc. my kids have retained well, it's gotten done, and we've all enjoyed the process and the books we've done with certain periods of time.

We've gotten through the first half of SOTW1 and really like it. We mainly do the activity pages, we've done a few of the projects but my kids are young (oldest is only 6) so that makes projects harder. I'm planning on using it again next year and get the next book and this time is like to get the audio cd so that I have the option of putting it on for the. At rest time or if I can't get it read out loud they can at least listen to it.
