Can I Install on the Middle Seat of a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We just got a 1999 Jeep and it has one of those seats that is a little shorter than the other seats in the middle. It also only has a lap belt there. Can I put a car seat there? I know I can't have anyone boostered or sitting there in just the lap belt. I only have two kids, so this isn't a huge issue cause I can just put each kid outboard. But my other people do ride with us sometimes. I read the vehicle manual but it didn't say anything about it (it seems rather old fashioned on it's take of car seats). If I can install there, I assume I'll have to learn to use a locking clip.

Right now we have a FFing True Fit and a RFing Titan. I'm planning to buy a Harmony or Nautalis, or maybe a Maestro for my son soon as my daughter is almost ready to outgrow the Titan RFing and I want to switch her to the True Fit, if that matters.

Thanks for any help!

You can't use a locking clip with a lap only belt, but it should lock on it's own. I'm not sure how big the back seat is, but the true fit may be hard to get right next to another seat. But if it fits, the true fit's lockoffs should take away any worry with the lap belt anyway. But in general, lap belts are totally fine to install with, and some find they are easier to work with even.

I have installed tons of seats in a grand Cherokee, yes, it will lock on its own all you have to do is pull the strap and it locks

Thanks, ladies. I'm not actually worried about the lap belt, but the size of the seat in the middle because it's so small. My True Fit actually puzzles super well with the Titan. Plus, the back seat of that Jeep is gigantic. :)

Good point about the True Fit's lockoffs, though. I wasn't even thinking about that. I want to put my son in the middle, if possible, cause he'll be the least protected as my daughter will be rear facing, but if it comes down to it, I can always put her in the middle. I just always find that those lap only belts that are not retractable loosen up far easier and quicker than they should.

I have an 01 JGC and have installed both a radian and a my size 70 in the center with no issues. It allows me to move both seats all the way back if needed as well.
