see if it resolves on own? or antibiotics? WWYD?

Strep Throat. I don't have fevers, just sore throat with red spots, tender lymph nodes and a little achey.

I'm 34 weeks prego and am a big "NO MED" advocate unless necessary.
Strep in adults generally self resolves in 3-10 days, but of course being prego... I'm not sure what to do!!

Anyone BTDT???

I did with my first pregnancy in the first trimester and I took the abx. Doc said it could be dangerous for the baby. Thankfully I have since had my tonsils out. DD was no worse for the wear for me taking the abx during the first trimester.

I'd talk to your doctor, because as she said, strep infections can be dangerous. If you can avoid taking anything, I would, but if you need to, do it. I had to take antibiotics in my first trimester and they made my nausea worse and just everything all around ickier until I was done with them.

I would not risk it... Strep thoat can lead to worse things like scarlet fever, heart problems. Mary Ingalls went blind... But I have a friend that didnt take anything but 2 garlic cloves 6 times a day - she said it worked.

Strep can also localize in other places if left untreated!

Scarlet fever can't cause blindness :goodvibes: Mary Ingalls most likely had viral meningoencephalitis.

How long have you had it OP? Dr. Google says it can go away on its own, but being pregnant your immune system isn't running on all cylinders and the antibiotic will make sure it doesn't go other places in your body and stop the ability to spread to others.

I am all about avoiding antibiotics where I can but I won't mess with strep. I have two family members who have lifelong complications from going too long w/o treatment. I would definitely take the antibiotics.

As a general rule, I suggest taking your medical advice from a physician - not from strangers on DS.

Strep is usually not a big deal today - because of antibiotics. Rheumatic fever is uncommon in developed countries as a result, but lifelong heart problems are a serious potential complication from steep.

Meningitis is a complication of scarlet fever - so yes, if she had strep but it cause more problems like scarlet fever and meningitis then going blind is not a wrong theory. Knowone knows what caused her blindness - it is all therories.
