gaaah, DH

We bought a new van back in January, and I found out last week that DH still had not added it to our insurance :banghead: Really? You're okay with letting your wife and children ride around in a car that is not insured? He said he'd take care of it, just needed the loan number, which I gave him. I asked him yesterday, he still hadn't taken care of it. So I just called the insurance agent, spent a grand total of 5 minutes and 13 seconds on the phone, and it's done. (And no need for the loan number.)

Oh, no! How did you get the loan? Our lender wouldn't lend without proof of insurance, and are told if there are changes or lapses.

We bought it new from a dealership, and financed through Toyota Financial Services.

at the dealerships here, you have to sign that you have the insurance and call your agent there. And yikes! In VA, the DMV wouldn't send you plates. Or they would suspend your license.

We got our van through them and we had to provide proof of insurance before we could even leave. They won't finance without it. Big fail on there part as well

The laws vary from state to state. Some places you just have to sign a form saying you'll add it to your insurance within 5 days. Depends on where you live.

Hopefully the DMV doesn't know about it. There are seriously some hefty fines associated with driving uninsured. My ex decided to stop paying his car insurance and it got cancelled. He ended up owing thousands for a period of 3 months without insurance. Then, he had to get special insurance for the "uninsurable" that was very expensive- here in Maryland, it's called MAIF. I believe it was $245/ month!
