Which Serger?

So I am looking at buying an inexpensive serger(around $200) and am looking at a Brother, Singer, and Janome. I am a beginner sewer and have a very basic Brother sewing machine. I am looking to make diapers for my LO, clothes for her and I and home decor projects like curtains and such. Which one would you purchase and why? Why is the Janome so different looking? Thank you.

I own the first two but don't have experience with the 3rd. Both the brother and the singer are good first sergers but I prefer the 1034D because it has more features and you can do more with it.

Yes, the Brother 1034D has the best reviews, it's the one I'm leaning towards. What can it do that the Singer can't? Curious. Thanks.

I hate singer. Hate. Hate. Hate.

Hate.

I have the brother 1034d and I love it. It's easy to use.

Don't get a singer. Please. It's just the worst.

the 1034D has a free arm which is great if you're sewing things like armholes, sleeves, waistbands, pant legs etc., it also has a differential feed so you can make things like ruffles or do a narrow hem stitching, as well as adjustable foot pressure. The replacement blades for them are affordable (probably because they're so popular) and it works great on curves.

The singer pretty much has almost every feature the 1034d had except the free arm. I just found it a bit more....finicky than the 1034D. They're both pretty loud but that's to be expected for the cheaper models. Its only when you start upgrading where you get the quieter motors on the machines.

The colored wheels in the first two do the same thing that the knobs do on the Janome - it's just a different way to control the tension. Of the three, I'd go for the Brother. If you have a bit more to spend, I am a big fan of Juki sergers. I have a MO-655, which is AWESOME (although probably more than you want to spend), but this is a nice one for just over $300: http://www.amazon.com/JUKI-MO-644D-M...&keywords=juki
