Kids and motorcycles

I debated putting this in 'carseats' but couldn't decide if that was appropriate or not.

Does anyone know laws regarding kids on motorcycles? I got to thinking about this about a year ago then put it out of my head. Just recently I started wondering again.

It makes sense to me that they wouldn't be allowed until they were at least legal in a particular state to not be in a seat or booster of some kind. But obviously I'm not the one that made the laws. Some google searches didn't reveal anything for me either.

Personal opinions are welcome as well. (As in what would you allow.)

Not til my kid was 18. No way, no how. I am strictly talking Harley on a paved road. I'm not going to get into ATVs or dirt bikes because I'm not sure what I would say about those.

My kid can get on a motorcycle the same day that I let him juggle chainsaws.

Laws are going from state to state. Start with the DMV website.

I just found this...

Not encouraging. But I can't seriously see how there can be no restriction?

I'll look on DMV again as well.

I think my two oldest were around 6 when they first rode on the back of a motorcycle. My dh and I don't have a bike but my family all rides (my uncle owned a HD dealership until last year) and majority of our friends ride. When another uncle lived in China they didn't bring their car, just their motorcycles and their kids rode in the sidecar. I think it all depends on your exposure to bikes. We live in PA and there is no minimum age

I've read that they need to be able to reach and properly use the passenger foot pegs.

I don't know if it's legal or not, but my two oldest have been on a motorcycle and all three of them have been on a four wheeler. Does that mean the diaper swappers safety Nazis are going to ban me? Lol.

I've read some references to that, but can't find the laws supporting it.

Honestly I'd let a kid ride totally unrestrained in a car before ride a motorcycle.

NJ they can be any age as a passenger as long as they have a properly fitting helmet to sit in a side car or sitting on the back if they can reach the footrest.
