Yeast Rash and Thrush? Homemade remedies?

My daughter keeps getting a yeast rash on her buns once every month or couple months. And the thrush in her mouth hasn't completely gone away.

Any homeopathic or homemade recipes? I know that yogurt helps the thrush, so we are going to eat yogurt 2x daily. And oatmeal baths seem to help her bottom. Maybe a yogurt paste for her bottom, too?

We are in between insurances right now, so I can't take her to the DR. I know it is easily treatable at home, it can just take longer. We don't want her to have antibiotics anyways, so need at-home, natural fixes. :)

We have had recurring yeast issues with my DD, too. Creams from the doc never made it go away and stay gone. It would go and then just come back. She had it for years. She's 6 now and it has finally stopped coming back since she stopped having so many potty accidents.

First and foremost, I recommend Callendula cream. I swear by it. Particularly the Weleda Calendula diaper cream. It is pricey, but so so so worth the $$ IMO. I've not found a rash that this cream DOESN'T work on.

I've also had success with tea tree oil, mixed with coconut butter.

Also have had great success with Apple Cider Vinegar. It kills both yeast and bacteria. So it can be used for UTIs as well. Draw a shallow bath and pour some ACV in and have her sit and play in it. (like a sitz bath I guess)

Yogurt is good, but you'll want something a bit stronger as far as probiotic properties go. I'd look into something like Culterelle or a probiotic powder you could mix into drinks for her.

On top of that, I'd change her diet to minimize carbs, greatly increase her fruits & veggies, and have a good amount of protein with each meal. Increase her water intake, and limit (even eliminate if you can) any juices or sodas.

Make sure she is getting plenty of time outside in fresh air and sunlight to play. That is important for a healthy immune system to kill off ickies.

...if you can't tell, we spent a LOT of time dealing with yeast rashes...

Also, if the yeast isn't killed in the diapers it will return quicker or not go away. I did 15 drops of tea tree oil in wash everyday until yeast rash was gone and then an extra 4 or 5 loads after that. Apple cider vinegar on bum every time and made sure it was super dry. That and coconut oil worked for us.

So the apple cider vinegar goes right on the bum? Does it sting on the rash? I'll have to put it in her bath, too.

We are using sposies now, but have to switch to cloth, so hopefully that will help. She kept getting BAD rashes when we would switch from Pampers Cruisers to Pampers Baby Dry, so I desperately put together some money to get her a stash started, and hopefully we'll have 10-12 diapers by the beginning of next week we can use. I may try to make my own fitteds for her this weekend, too.

oooh yes. I didn't realize your DD was still in diapers, OP! This is super important info.

Also line dry in direct sun as much as possible until the yeast is totally gone.

You can buy lotramin OTC for her bum. Same thing as niastatin.

I wouldn't put undiluted ACV directly on the rash. It WILL sting. Badly if the rash is severe.

You can dilute it and put it in a peri bottle and just rinse her bum off after each change, then add a bit to her baths. Or, you can make a diluted solution and use cloth wipes soaked with that for her changes to wipe her down with.

It's still 'winter/spring' here, so no sun yet. But hopefully soon, and then I can line dry or lay in sun. Yes, she just turned 1 a couple weeks ago, and just started getting them a couple weeks ago. I wonder if it is the juice DH is giving her. :(

Definitely going to try all of this! :) THANK YOU!

Do you have any unrefined coconut oil? If you have some tea tree oil, you can add a few drops to a few tbs of coconut oil and use that as a diaper area ointment. If you have GSE, that would be great to add to the mix as well.

You want to make sure that you are limiting any refined carbs (white flours, white sugars) and make sure she is getting lots of probiotics. Fermented/cultured foods are best (yogurt, kefir, fermented veggies, etc) are more affordable and the live/active probiotics are right there, no need to worry about pills or powders.

You should really strip the cloth diapers as well. Tea tree oil will help kill the yeast. Putting the diapers in the sunshine will help kill yeast as well. :)

If she is having yeast issues, you definitely want to cut out the juice. Yeast LOVES sugar. And sugar also suppresses the immune system, making it harder for her body to get the yeast under control.
