Used pump ?

I am looking at buying a used pump, an Ameda Purely Yours, and I was wondering if buying a used pump is safe. I really can't afford to buy a new one and I thought I heard somewhere that if you replace the tubing, it is safe.

thanks,
Mandi

Re: Used pump ?

From what my LC explained, the Ameda is a closed system - you wouldn't even need new tubing because it never comes in contact with the milk. The Medela is not closed, and while the milk is not supposed to enter the tubing, it is possible so you should always replace the tubing.

Both are still considered single user products so it is not "recommended" by the manufacturer to buy used... but most moms do it anyways! As long as it is CLEAN and well kept I wouldn't have a problem with buying used.

I bought the same model pump, replaced the diaphragms and other assorted bits that came into contact with the milk (not the hard plastic parts like the horns, those can be boiled and sterilized easily) and I've been using it successfully for almost a year now :goodvibes:
