How to get dd help (possible bipolar,ADD,Aspergers,Autism)

Anyone have experience with this? What are the best avenues/steps for getting her help? Should I see her ped. first and then get referrals to other places? Any advice in this area, or anything you have learned along the way that would be helpful to know? I am thinking of doing an elimination diet first. Thanks!

My son was dx w/ autism when he was 4 in 1999. His process started in school. You can take her to her ped. and that would be a good place to start. Is she school aged?

We have something here called ECCARES that a friend told me to call. They sent us out a packet, which I filled out, and my phone interview is in 2 hours. After we go over the answers in the packet, they'll decide if we need a face to face interview or not. We also have a thing called The Early Education Program. Its a state run preschool that is for special needs and neurotypical kids. The friend gave me this number too, and on Tuesday ds started going  . He loves it, and the ladies there have experience with sn kids. And the classroom ratio is super low. There are 8 kids and 3 teachers. And its non-profit, so its about the same a month as other places are a week. He's enrolled as a nt kid until our process is done, and we're paying at this point, but if he gets accepted into the program the state will pay, and I'm guessing he'll also get therapy. This is totally not what we were planning on doing. We're still going to homeschool next year, but it will be nice for him to get to learn the other skills he needs for now!

Yes, she is age 5. She is homeschooled though.

I would start with the pediatrician, she may refer you to a neurologist/neuropsychologist. You could also ask around for recommendations for pediatric psychiatrists, do you have a mental health center locally you could call?

Some sites for pediatric bipolar are: Starfish advocacy, copy and paste: http://68.178.166.75/

One of our hosp. here has a program for testing and therapy, but you have to be refered. The cost is income dependant. Our school system also has a program. May be you could make so calls to find out what resourses are available in your community.

My DS is hearing impaired and in my experiences the Drs do not help besides metal things. For early intervention type stuff you need to call them, and I believe if shes 5 that schould be through the school system they they would help you! GL

I'm not sure if they do it in your area, but I am part of a Children's Mental Health Clinic that is run by the state. They are set up for this exact reason. To help parents understand what their options are to get their child evaluated and treated for mental health issues. They have all of the resources to help!!! You could find out through your states health and welfare department. They are there for support for the parent and to provide resources and support for parent, child and family. I am pretty sure this is a nation wide program so be sure to look into it!!! :hugs:
