I had it with DS#2. It's nothing you did. You didn't eat too much junk or drink the wrong stuff. It's how your body reacts to the pregnancy. You'll be just fine. Just follow what the nutritionist says and take care of yourself so that you will have a healthy pregnancy. You will have to take your blood sugar every day and some ladies don't like it. They don't want to poke their fingers or mess with it. They then go on to have sick babies. I controlled mine with my diet and have a healthy baby. The diet isn't too bad either. It's mostly about portion control and eating the right things. I was never hungry as I ate three meals and three snacks a day. Even with all that food, I didn't gain a lot of weight and baby was a pound lighter than baby number one. Feel free to PM me anytime. :)

I had it w/ my dd. Like the previous poster said, it is nothing you did at all. There is NO WAY you could prevent it from happening. Every pregnancy is different and the hormones affect the body different each time.

I followed the diet and my GD still could not be controlled. But....I was able to not take insulin. I had to take an oral medication to control it. My dd was a small one too. 6lbs 13 oz. and very healthy.

It's going to be okay mama. :hugs: Just take things one thing at a time. The diabetes educator will explain everything.

Do you have insurance? If so, they should take care of EVERYTHING. W/ my last pregnancy, I did not pay for any of my testing equipment at start up. Eventually, I did have my normal pharmacy co-pay for additional testing strips and little needle things to prick my finger, but that was all.

Good luck. It will be okay...:hugs:

:hugs: I had it with DS and was way confused until I went to the diabetic center. They were GREAT. They let me bring my DH so he could learn about GD and my new diet too. They also set me up with a meter and followed me during my pregnancy. I did need insulin and the dosage changed often as the baby grew (but that is expected). The diabetic center really helped me keep on top of things.

As far as the diet it is all about portion control. You can have carbs and you need them too. Think of your carbs like a checkbook. You have so much "$" to spend on a meal so you just have to choose how to spend it. I love fries so if I had a hamburger I would eat it bunless so I could have a few fries. The diet also helped me to not gain too much weight. Oh you will find that diet pudding and low carb cool whip are your friends. :lostit:
