A tried and true method to getting small things out of a toddler's nose...

My son is 2.5 and discovered that he can put things up his nose-- cereal, beans, fruit snacks-- The first time it happened he'd stuck 4 pieces of Kix cereal up is right nostril and kept huffing them farther up so we went to the ER where they sucked it out. But they taught me a great trick to try at home, and since I just had to use it I thought I'd share in case anyone could ever use it and save the copay to the Er ;) : lay the child on their back, plug the nostril that doesn't have somethig up it, and put your mouth over theirs and blow.

Worked nicely on the two piecse of macaronni up his nose this evening....

He was eatting and talking and then he stopped and looked at me with this frown on his space.

"Mommy, nose itchy."
"Why is your noise itchy?" I wasn't thinking about the up the nose possibility at the time.
"My spaghetti in nose."

D'oh! He wouldn't touch it after we got it out and kept telling us it was naughty spaghetti (all pasta, in any form is spaghetti here).

But hey, it works!!

Thats so funny! I will definately have to remember that. My oldest never stuck anything up his nose but I'm sure one of the other two will at least try. Thanks for the tip.

Could you use a vacuum with a hose attachment on it and just suck whatever hole things get stuck in? You know, if the blowing in their mouths thing doesn't work?
Might be better than a trip to the ER. :)

Eeek. I don't know if it would work or not, but I would be afraid it would terrify the child. Many of them have a fear of the vacuum in the first place...
